Broughton and Broughton take top honors
150 boats turned out for the Gambler Lures No Entry Fee Tournament out of Clewiston. The earlier cold front had pushed water temperatures into the low 50's and with a new front moving in the wind did not let up. The conditions did not stop Steve Broughton and Bob Broughton from bringing 22.22 to the scale to take top honors. Second place went to Mike Keyso and Dan Blanchard with 20.02. Don Demott and Greg Sweeny flipped up 19.48 for third place. Steve Lasky and John O'Farrell took fourth and Juan Ruiz and Mike Cass wrapped up 5th with 15.75 and 14.14 respectively. The big fish was 8.13 and weighed in by Mike Keyso and Dan Blanchard.
There was no doubt about the top pattern on the lake. All of the top finishers flipped a variety of baits in heavy cover to bring in the top stringers. The teams of Steve Broughton and Bob Broughton, and Don Demott and Greg Sweeny reported their best bites on the Ugly Otter. Mike Keyso and Dan Blanchard, and Juan Ruiz and Mike Cass reported their best bites on the Crawdaddy. One thing is for sure when the water gets cold it is time to put on the heavy weight, 1 to 1.5 oz, your favorite Gambler Craw bait and hit the heavy vegetation.
